Research highlights knowledge retention strategies to maintain performance following workforce turnover, suggesting a comprehensive model for organizations.
This research explores strategies for knowledge retention that organizations can adopt in order to deal with the loss of critical workforce knowledge owing to attrition. The aim is to create an all-inclusive model which includes frameworks at the organizational, technological, and individual levels for possible solutions. The methodology is based on systematic literature review and fundamental concepts of knowledge management, which inform development of a conceptual model. Various hypothetical performance indicators are proposed and measured for potential impacts of the proposed framework. The analysis shows that retention of knowledge, and thus safeguarding organizational capabilities and performance, can be sustained by puting knowledge capture processes, knowledge repositories, mentorship programs, and a strong culture of sharing knowledge working collaboratively. This study presents a model that can help organizations dealing with attrition-related knowledge gaps created by exiting employees.
