Investigation reveals megaplastic deformation influences saturation magnetization and phase changes in austenitic-martensitic alloy.
The effect of megaplastic deformation created in a Bridgman chamber at a temperature of 77 K on the saturation magnetization, phase composition, and crystal-geometric characteristics for the phases of a metastable Fe-18Cr-10Ni austenitic-martensitic alloy has been investigated. It was found that torsion under hydrostatic pressure with the true logarithmic deformation value e = 3.4-5.8 at 77 K led to the formation of two martensitic phases: ferromagnetic α and paramagnetic ε. Mechanisms explaining the nature of changes in the saturation magnetization are proposed.
