This analysis demonstrates the formation of martensitic phases in Fe-18Cr-10Ni alloy, suggesting significant implications for its properties.
The effect of severe plastic (megaplastic) deformation created in the Bridgman chamber on the structure, magnetic and mechanical properties of Fe-18Cr-10Ni alloy with a metastable austenitic-martensitic structure has been investigated. It is shown that the application of torsion under pressure with the true logarithmic deformation value e = 4.7-5.8 leads to the formation of two martensitic phases: the ferromagnetic α-phase with a high value of spontaneous saturation magnetization and the paramagnetic ε-phase. The presence of two significantly different magnetically dispersed phases explains to a large extent the complex nature of the change in saturation magnetization with increasing deformation, as well as a high level of the mechanical properties of the alloy studied.
