In this article, the authors analyze the hard coal mining sector. Global, European and national trends are presented. The financial situation of mining enterprises and the financial liabilities of this sector are described in detail.Fees and charges to the state budget and local budgets are analyzed in detail. The problem of competitiveness of Polish mining enterprises and their contribution to the functioning of the national economy has been noticed. The article ends with the most important conclusions.
