Genome assembly of Spongia lamella reveals chromosomal structures, and metagenome analysis identifies microbial lineages.
<ns3:p>We present a genome assembly from a specimen of <ns3:italic>Spongia lamella</ns3:italic> (Elephant ear; Porifera; Demospongiae; Dictyoceratida; Spongiidae). The genome sequence has a total length of 130.43 megabases. Most of the assembly (98.43%) is scaffolded into 10 chromosomal pseudomolecules. The mitochondrial genome has also been assembled and is 16.67 kilobases in length. Metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) representing different lineages within the Poribacteria, Rhodothermota, Chloroflexota, Acidobacteriota and Actinomycetota phyla were identified, along with one single lineage of ammonia-oxidising archaea affiliated with the genus <ns3:italic>Nitrosopumilus</ns3:italic> (phylum Thermoproteota).</ns3:p>
