In a constantly changing world, the role of education is of great importance. Education experts are called upon to develop flexible mechanisms to respond to modern challenges successfully. In this context, school - as a provider and representative of education - must redefine its objectives in order to transform the way it operates and continuously improve. This will allow it to perform its pedagogical and social role consistently and effectively. The purpose of this study is to investigate and analyse the views of Secondary School teachers on the degree to which modern school respond to the objectives set by current Greek reality as well as the factors which can make a significant contribution to meeting its objectives successfully.Analysis of results showed that there is a need for enhancing school quality and effectiveness. Nonetheless, the importance of a positive school environment characterized by a collaborative culture was identified as the dominant factor in achieving these objectives.
