Quantitative research reveals teachers’ critical role in enhancing primary schools as learning organizations, indicating effective responses to educational challenges.
The primary school nowadays, in order to follow the new educational and social challenges, the development of sciences and the evolution of technology, must strengthen its possibilities in learning faster and more efficiently. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the degree of operation of the primary school as a learning organization and the role of teachers in the process of transforming school into a learning organization. The quantitative field research was conducted in primary schools in the prefectures of Magnesia and Thesprotia. From the statistical analysis of the findings we can say that the schools of the two prefectures function in a relatively significant degree as organizations of learning having incorporated all the dimensions of the learning organization. In this process, teachers have a central role, participate, collaborate, interact with each other and learn by implementing innovative actions. Thus school meets the social and educational challenges and function as a place where new knowledge is developed and produced.
