Comparative analysis reveals Proclaim insecticide reduces cotton bollworm in sweet peppers, indicating significant yield benefits.
The Lower Volga region, due to its climatic conditions, has significant potential for growing sweet pepper. However, the production of high yields is limited by a number of adverse factors, the main of which are pests and plant diseases. The purpose of the studies conducted was to assess the biological efficiency of insecticides in the control of cotton bollworm (Helicoverpa armigera Hb.) in the vegetation period of sweet peppers grown outdoors. In the period from 2021 to 2023, when cultivating early ripening sweet pepper Ilona F1, treatments with the following agents were studied: Proclaim, wettable powder and Stilet, emulsifiable concentrate. Protective measures using insecticides in cotton bollworm control have significantly reduced the number of pests. The results of the studies conducted showed that the highest level of biological efficiency was achieved from twofold treatment with Proclaim, wettable powder insecticide (0.4 kg/ha). On the seventh day, the decrease in the number adjusted for control was 89.1 %, on the 14th day the decrease was 78.7 %. All this suggests that this agent is able to significantly reduce the population of the bollworm and, as a result, to increase yields. Increase in yield from treatment with Proclaim, wettable powder in Ilona F1 sweet pepper plantings to the control (without treatment) averaged + 31.2 t/ha. At the same time, the profitability was at the level of 270.4 % with a yield of 73.2 t/ha. All this indicates the correct use of insecticide in the calculated dose and processing schedule to control the cotton bollworm.
