Observation reports higher endoparasitic fauna diversity in autumn among various bird species, indicating wild birds as potential parasite reservoirs.
The study examined the fauna of helminths in birds of the Tver region, on the territory of the Zavidovo National Park. An incomplete helminthological dissection of organ complexes from 214 individuals of various species was carried out: pheasants, woodcocks, mallards, turkeys and geese. 15 taxa of parasites were found, including the classes Trematoda, Cestoda, Nematoda, Acanthocephala, as well as protozoa. In the autumn period, a greater diversity of endoparasitic fauna was found compared to the spring period, which, presumably, may be associated with the life cycles of helminths and the migratory activity of birds. The study showed that wild birds can serve as a reservoir for parasites that are dangerous for domestic and agricultural birds. The overall infestation was 60.7 %, which emphasizes the importance of taking into account wild fauna in the prevention of helminthiasis in poultry farming. The obtained data have practical significance for the development of measures for the control and prevention of parasitic diseases in birds.
