Animal study revealed reduced inflammatory and edematous changes in burn-injured skin, highlighting benefits of Astragalus vulpinus extract.
The article describes the peculiarities of proliferative skin processes in conditions of burn injury and against the background of correction by extract of grass Astragalus vulpinus Willd. The study was carried out on non-linear male rats with an average weight of 220 grams. Age 6-7 months. The burn injury was simulated under ethereal narcotic conditions in the interscapular region of the back. Animals were randomized as follows: Group I - unburned animals - intact (n = 10); Group II - animals receiving intragastrically distilled water and externally isotonic NaCl solution against the background of a burn injury of the skin (n = 10); Group III - animals treated with Aloe application and intragastric administration of distilled water (combined administration) (n = 10) during 21 days; Group IV - animals receiving applications and intragastric administration (combined administration) of Astragalus vulpinus Willd herb extract (n = 10) for 21 days. Under conditions of burn exposure, pronounced destructive transformations, edematous and inflammatory changes of the skin occurred. Concomitant administration of Astragalus vulpinus Willd herb extract resulted in reduced edematous and inflammatory changes, as well as activation of the proliferative potential of skin cells, compared to the group of animals in which skin repair occurred independently.
