Analysis reveals enhanced performance and operational metrics for drilling operations in Mexico, highlighting best practices and risk reduction.
Mexico represents a significant challenge due to the nature of the geological formations and the depths we need to drill to reach the reservoir. In recent years, main client in Mexico and its contractors have had differing points of view; however, according to best practices, we can find a middle ground in these discussions. The breakthrough in land operations has been the depletion of fields caused by the increase in rigs deployed for each oil reservoir. This paper presents an in-depth analysis of how multiphase managed pressure drilling (MPD) has improved drilling operations in Mexico. Case studies will highlight key operational improvements, such as: The operating window of wells in 2022 compared to 2024.Reductions in time associated with energizing the well.Drilling contractor KPI objectives for connections using MPD. Additionally, the paper will provide real-time performance monitoring and insights for supervisors concerning the criteria for energizing a well at depths exceeding 7,500 meters. By leveraging these best practices, drilling rig crew can reduce operational risks and optimize cost efficiency. Finally, the paper will offer guidance for the oil industry, even in an extreme drilling environment.
