Analysis reveals how regional economies influence agglomerations and capitals in Russia, highlighting the role of manufacturing.
The relationship between the development of agglomerations, regional capitals of the Russian Federation and the structure of the regional economy is studied. A higher standard of living in regional capitals contributes to the outflow of residents of peripheral territories and, first of all, young people. The study considered two approaches - with the allocation of agglomerations and the division of the Russian Federation into federal districts. The analysis of the relationship between the structure of the economy of Russian regions (by the share of agriculture, mining, manufacturing and trade) and the development of agglomerations and the periphery in different groups of regions showed one weak dependence - the larger the population of the regional capital, the greater the share of manufacturing in it.
