Observational study finds elevated NT-ProBNP in AECOPD patients, indicating cardiovascular risks.
Background: Long standing Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is known to have cardiovascular implications in the patients. NT-Pro-BNP is a protein that's an ingredient for making the BNP hormone. Aim Of The Study: The aim of this study was to assess the relationship of NT-Pro-BNP levels with outcomes of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease in patients without evident cardiovascular complications. The Cases were Grouped into Group I (50 AECO Material And Methods: PD patients admitted in the Department of General Medicine) and Group II (50 COPD patients visiting Out Patient Department) respectively. Group III (50 age and sex matched Healthy Patients were considered as Controls). The parameter NT-Pro-BNP levels were measured by Chemiluminescence. Results: The Mean Values of NT-Pro-BNP in Group I, Group II and Group III were 7817.11pg/ml, 401.72 pg/ml ,62.1 pg/ml respectively. The highest values of NT-Pro-BNP were observed in Group I compared with Group II and Group III. In this Conclusion: study, it is evident that the patients with AECOPD have high NT-Pro-BNP levels and statistically significant when compared with those of Stable COPD patients and healthy control group.
