Discourse analysis uncovers how sports media fosters social solidarity during wartime conditions, indicating a shift in traditional narratives.
<ns3:p>The author uses the example of a specific media outlet and demonstrates (without the ambitions of conducting quantitative analysis) the diversity of media behavior strategies in wartime conditions. For this purpose, discourse analysis tools are employed. The study reveals that Ukrainian sports media adopt a rhetoric that is coherent with the dominant social and political order; that the hermeticity and autonomy of sports media discourse ( rooted in the maxim "sport is outside politics") loses it absoluteness in extreme situations; and, finally, that the polyaspect (hybridity), efficiency and interactivity of modern online media prove to be a powerful tool for constructing social solidarity, especially when the original thematic foucs of the media seems, at first glance, to be only distantly related.</ns3:p>
