Observational study reveals the effect of vanadium in explosive welding on mechanical properties, indicating instability in joint formation.
In this work, a multilayer composite material AMg6 – VnPl-1(vanadium) – 12Cr18Ni10Ti was obtained using explosive welding. The results of a study of the explosive welding process using high-speed photography showed that, during the collision of layers, vertical oscillations of the intermediate vanadium layer occur, which lead to a change in the height of welding gaps between welded layers. In turn, this change in gap height causes sharp disturbances in the propagation of shock-compressed gas, leading to changes in its geometric and thermodynamic parameters, negatively affecting the stability of joint formation.
