Design project develops innovative fruit collector for small-scale farmers, highlighting ergonomics and sustainability.
This article presents the development of a biomimetic fruit collector inspired by the zygodactyl structure of the chameleon's foot, conducted as part of the academic course "Projeto V" in the Design program at the Federal University of Campina Grande. The project followed the Double Diamond methodology, starting from research into the chameleon's anatomy and behavior, progressing through alternative generation and solution refinement. The product was designed to enhance ergonomics, efficiency, and sustainability for small-scale farmers, particularly those facing physical limitations. Market analysis, persona creation, ergonomic and structural requirement definitions, 3D modeling, and physical mockups were carried out. The partial results demonstrate innovative potential and promising functionality; however, real-world testing is still required for full validation. The study concludes that biomimicry, combined with responsible design practices, expands creative possibilities and contributes to practical solutions applicable to the agricultural context.
