Numerical simulation studies mechanical properties of cemented sand and gravel, indicating optimal aggregate gradation impacts performance.
Cemented Sand and Gravel (CSG) is a new material in the field of hydraulic engineering, which has the characteristics of saving resources and facilitating construction. In order to explore the material characteristics and application prospects of CSG the complex mechanical behavior of CSG has been studied. In the present investigation the numerical simulation of the influence of aggregate grade paired cementitious gravel on the mechanical properties has been carried out. The macroscopic mechanical properties of CSG under three natural gradations were explored using the numerical simulation technology starting from the perspective of aggregate gradation and taking the standard Fuller gradation as a reference. The finite element models of different aggregate gradations were established, the uniaxial compression test simulations were carried out. The analysis of the test results shows that the closer the aggregate gradation is to the standard Fullerian gradation, the better the mechanical properties of the material. When the aggregate gradation was the standard Fuller gradation the peak stress and elastic modulus of CSG were the best, the maximum peak stress reached 8.96MPa, and the maximum elastic modulus was 424.64 MPa. The research can provide theoretical basis and technical support for the engineering application of CSG.
