This case report highlights atypical visual loss in females with LHON, suggesting potential diagnostic challenges.
Leber’s Hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) is most common mitochondrial inherited disease presenting in male patients. It is less commonly presented in females. Leber’s hereditary optic neuropathy (LHON) was first described in 1871 by the German ophthalmologist Theodore Leber and was subsequently named after him. It is characterized by bilateral, painless, subacute visual loss in young adults. LHON is a rare condition and many times doctors suspect and treat for other causes of vision loss.
