This method demonstrates efficient stereoselective bromochalcogenation in acetylene, indicating potential for drug modification.
To overcome bifunctionalization limitations in acetylene chemistry, we developed a metal-free catalytic strategy for stereoselective 1,2-bromochalcogenation. Using acetylene as a C2 synthon, tetrabutylammonium tribromide (TBATB), and dichalcogenides under mild conditions, this method efficiently synthesizes E-stereoselective chalcogen-containing vinyl bromides. Demonstrated scalability and drug modification utility, alongside mechanistic insights from control experiments, underscore its sustainable practicality.
