Case report demonstrates successful recovery from non-union in scaphoid fractures, implying effective surgical intervention.
Scaphoid fracture is one of the commonly missed fractures [3] that undergo non-union. Delay in diagnosis and inadequate treatment for acute scaphoid fracture can cause non-union and avascular necrosis of proximal pole of scaphoid leading to subsequent degenerative wrist arthritis [1] within 5 years [3]. Risk of non-union can be high (14% to 50% if displaced) [3]. The retrograde nature of the blood supply of scaphoid leads to higher risk of proximal pole avascular necrosis [4]. Diagnosis of scaphoid non-union is difficult since patients may have normal radiograph in early clinical course [2].
