This analysis compares project management maturity in oil marketing companies in Zambia, indicating multinational firms are more advanced than local ones.
This study investigated the factors driving the development of filling stations and compared the project management maturity of multinational and local oil marketing companies (OMCs) in Zambia. The study addressed the following key objectives: to determine the factors driving the development of filling stations in Zambia; to compare the project management maturity of multinational OMCs with local OMCs; and to identify areas of improvement for the local OMCs. The study assessed seven key areas using P3M3 framework to assess six organisations. The study utilized a mixed methods approach combining both qualitative and quantitative methods. The findings indicate that an increase in vehicle usage/ownership and market share/brand growth were the leading factors motivating the development of filling stations in Zambia. The findings further revealed that multinational OMCs were more mature than local OMCs in all the seven areas assessed. Thus, the local OMCs need to improve in the seven areas assessed.
