Solid dispersion shows significant improvement in solubility and drug release for resveratrol, indicating better bioavailability.
Although resveratrol possesses potentially attractive activities, it has poor oral bioavailability due to its poor solubility. Improve RSV’s poor bioavailability; various methodological approaches have been developed. One of the most promising and efficient techniques for solubility enhancement is solid dispersion techniques. Solid dispersions represent a useful pharmaceutical technique for increasing the dissolution, absorption and therapeutic efficacy of drugs. The solid dispersion was prepared by using different polymers Polyethylene glycol, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and Urea at different ratios using the solvent evaporation method. In preparation of solid dispersion, different drug-polymer ratio was taken i.e., 1:1, 1:2 and 1:4. The prepared formulations were evaluated for different parameters like drug content, percentage yield, solubility, in-vitro drug release behaviour and Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy. From the obtained results it was summarized that increase in aqueous solubility was noticed especially those formulated with 1:4 Drug:PEG (SD3) ratio using solvent evaporation method . This formulation also showed greater extent of drug release when compared to other formulations. No interaction between drug and polymers were established by FTIR spectrum. In future solid oral dosage form (tablets, capsules) of Resveratrol can be formulated by using the prepared solid dispersion of Resveratrol which not only increases the solubility but also increases the oral bioavailability.
