Theoretical analysis demonstrates how arc combustion affects weld pool formation in narrow grooves, suggesting improved welding parameters.
To solve the problem of determining the welding mode parameters that prevent lack of fusion on the side walls of the groove, a model of arc combustion is proposed based on a system of equations of thermal conductivity and electric potential associated with the dependence of the plasma specific electrical conductivity on its temperature. Theoretical analysis of physical phenomena in an arc located in a narrow groove of edges showed that the distribution of the arc current over the metal surface differs greatly from the normal law. A significant proportion of heat release in the arc column is redistributed to the groove walls by column radiation and plasma thermal conductivity. The obtained distributions of arc heat fluxes make it possible to determine the formation of a weld pool and optimize both the geometry of the groove and the arc combustion mode.
