Survey reveals teachers' perceptions of distance education and challenges for socially disadvantaged students.
Objective: The aim of the presented study is to examine how primary and lower secondary teachers in Slovakia perceived distance education during the COVID-19 pandemic with an emphasis on finding out how distance education was provided for students from socially disadvantaged backgrounds. Method: We found that our respondents (primary and lower secondary teachers) used modern information technologies during distance learning and the vast majority of students actively participated in teaching. We divided our research into two interconnected anonymous questionnaires. Results and Discussion: From the answers of the respondents, it is clear that contact education is for them an important and irreplaceable form of education, which they consider to be more entertaining, interesting, full-fledged, effective and more fulfilling the mission of the teacher compared to distance education.
