In this article, we focus on the significance of metaphor in the clinical setting. We will examine various metaphors commonly employed in clinical practice and attempt to highlight the different functions they serve. We propose to view the analytical situation as metaphorical in its essence. Furthermore, we believe in the vital importance of play and the potential space in mental life in general, and specifically in analytical therapy. Therefore, we suggest considering metaphor as a product of the existence of a potential space in therapy, and as facilitating that space within Potential Space.
