Experimental tests reveal that normal load influences tribological behaviors and electrochemical corrosion in 20CrMnTi alloy steel, indicating varied effects under lubricated conditions.
Tribo-corrosion behaviors had greatly affected the service performance of 20CrMnTi gear alloy steel. Experimental tests and finite element analysis methods were applied to investigate the influence of normal load on the damage behaviors of 20CrMnTi gear alloy steel under dry and oil-lubricated conditions, respectively. The tribological behaviors, electrochemical corrosion response, and damage evolution rule were discussed in detail. Results showed that the increased of normal load can enhance the tribological damage and electrochemical corrosion degree of 20CrMnTi gear alloy steel under both dry and oil-lubricated conditions. Meanwhile, the aggravating effect in the oil-lubricated condition is lower than that in the dry condition. The main damage mechanisms under dry wear conditions are mainly adhesive wear, abrasive wear, and fatigue spalling. Meanwhile, abrasive wear and pitting corrosion are the main failure mechanisms under oil-lubricated condition.
