Analysis reveals a direct relationship between poverty rates and crime rates, highlighting economic factors.
This research aims to clarify the impact of poverty rates on crime rates in the Iraqi economy, focusing on the relationship between poverty as an economic variable and crime as a social indicator during the period (2005–2019). The study relied on both descriptive-analytical and quantitative econometric methods to examine the relationship between these two variables. The results showed a significant and direct relationship between the increase in poverty rates and the rise in crime rates, especially in regions suffering from deteriorating economic conditions and high levels of unemployment. The research concluded with a set of key recommendations, the most prominent of which are: enhancing social support programs for all low-income groups, providing sustainable job opportunities, and improving education and awareness levels as preventive measures to reduce the impact of poverty on crime rates.
