This paper examines the critical role of leadership in driving talent upskilling initiatives at Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) as part of its digital transformation journey. It focuses on how effective leadership can cultivate an environment conducive to continuous learning and skill enhancement across the organization. Our approach involved a multi-faceted leadership development program emphasizing upskilling for digital competencies. Workshops and training sessions for leaders equipped them with tools to mentor and support their teams effectively. Additionally, a framework was established for leaders to identify skill gaps and align development initiatives with organizational goals. Feedback was systematically collected to refine the program and ensure its effectiveness. The initiative has led to significant improvements in both leadership engagement and employee performance, evidenced by increased motivation and commitment to personal development among team members. Observations indicate that leaders who actively support skill enhancement initiatives can drive meaningful change, resulting in higher levels of innovation and adaptability within teams. This paper contributes valuable insights into the intersection of leadership and talent development in the context of digital transformation. By highlighting the direct impact of empowered leadership on upskilling efforts, it offers practical strategies for organizations in the energy sector to enhance their workforce capabilities and navigate the complexities of digital change effectively.
