Retrospective study shows pancreatic fat fraction is higher in obese individuals with type 2 diabetes, suggesting its role in understanding diabetes pathogenesis.
Motivation: To investigate the relationship between pancreatic fat deposition and the development of type 2 diabetes in obese individuals to understand its role in the pathogenesis of T2DM. Goal(s): To assess pancreatic fat in obese patients with T2DM and normal controls using MR Dixon Quant technique to elucidate the role of ectopic fat deposition in pancreatic progression of T2DM in obese individuals. Approach: Conducted a retrospective study using 3.0T MRI scans and MR Dixon Quant sequences to compare pancreatic fat fractions among obese T2DM patients, obese individuals without T2DM, and normal controls. Results: Pancreatic fat fraction (PFF) was significantly higher in T2DM with obesity. Impact: This research could guide early T2DM detection in obese patients and inform targeted therapeutic interventions.
