Feasibility study shows 3D cine imaging improves diagnostic accuracy in dilated cardiomyopathy, suggesting a quicker evaluation method.
Motivation: Clinical 2D cardiac cine sequences require multiple breath-hold and take a long time. In contrast, a 3D cine sequence can acquire the whole heart in a single breath-hold. Goal(s): This study aimed to investigate the utility of the 3D cine sequence for assessing left ventricular function and strain in individuals diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy (DCM). Approach: All DCM patients were scanned using 2D balanced steady state free precession and 3D Enhanced sensitivity encoding by Static Outer-volume Subtraction sequences. Cardiac structure and function parameters obtained from the two sequences were compared. Results: The 3D cine sequence demonstrates high diagnostic accuracy in individuals with DCM. Impact: The 3D cine ESSOS sequence can serve as a valuable tool for rapidly evaluating heart structure and function in patients with DCM, offering a cost-effective screening approach.
