This study demonstrates improved NOE and B1+ correction in brain imaging, indicating better metabolic assessments.
Motivation: NOE at 7 Tesla suffers from image degradation due to signal drop off caused by B1 inhomogeneity. Goal(s): To demonstrate in vivo on 7T MRI, brain B1+, NOEMTR, and multipool metabolite map enhancement via metasurfaces. Approach: 3D NOE images were acquired, consisting of a full Z-spectrum, which was used in conjunction with a multipool Lorentzian fitting model to generate MT, APT, amine, and rNOE pools. B1+ maps were acquired as an additional comparison metric. Results: Metasurfaces globally enhanced the transmit efficiency, particularly in the temporal lobe regions. NOEMTR and amplitude fit maps showed improved image contrast and uniformity. Impact: Metasurfaces improve metabolic NOE image quality at 7T, making this technique more suitable for investigating pathologies in the temporal lobes and cerebellum.
