Retrospective cross-sectional study evaluates hemodynamic forces in mitral regurgitation patients, suggesting non-invasive diagnostics.
Motivation: This study aims to introduce hemodynamic force (HDF) as a novel biomarker in assessing mitral regurgitation with preserved ejection fraction (MRpEF). Goal(s): The fundamental goal of this study is to assess HDF non-invasively using 4D-flow MRI data to distinguish patients from healthy individuals and accurately identify mitral insufficiency associated with left-sided dysfunction. Approach: This retrospective and cross-sectional study used 4D-flow MRI data to compute HDF as root mean square (RMS), average, and transverse-to-longitudinal ratio to evaluate its ability to detect MRpEF. Results: Patients displayed distinct profiles from controls. Systolic (basal-apical) and diastolic (septal-lateral) RMS force emerged as crucial indicators of MR progression. Impact: The integration of hemodynamic forces as a biomarker paves the way for innovative research opportunities, potentially revolutionizing non-invasive diagnostics. This study aims to enhance mitral regurgitation assessment, empowering clinicians for timely interventions and improved patient management.
