Experimental work shows improved soil properties with granulated calcined phosphate in leached tropical soils, indicating agricultural benefits.
This experimental work aimed to study the effect of granulated calcined natural phosphate on some physical and chemical properties of leached tropical ferrous soils in Burkina Faso. To do this, a completely randomized design with four replications and nine treatment was adopted in pots a greenhouse. Treatments were: a control, the compost enriched with Trichoderma harzianum, the Burkina phosphate rock, the superphosphate triple, NPK (14 - 23 – 14), the granulated calcined natural phosphates, a combination of 75% superphosphate triple and 25% granulated calcined natural phosphates, a combination of 50% superphosphate triple and 50% granulated calcined natural phosphates and a combination of 75% granulated calcined natural phosphates and 25% superphosphate triple. Improvement in the soil’s chemical and physical properties in all treatment compared to control soil was observed. This study shows that the combination of granulated natural phosphate (75%) and superphosphate triple (25%) improved soil’s chemical and physical properties, with greater importance and durability for granular phosphate. Also, according to the results obtained, a neutralization of the pH an increase in electrical conductivity from 3.68 to 7.26 dS.m-1 ; a slight increase in water retention capacity from 33.06 to 33.85% and an increase in cation exchange capacity from 6.99 to 14.55 meq/100 g soil were observed. The technology combining the combination of granulated natural phosphate (75%) and superphosphate triple (25%) could be recommended to producers.
