Integrating Digital Citizenship in Primary Schools to Advance Sustainable Development Goals in Indonesia

This article explores the integration of digital citizenship within primary school curricula as a strategic approach to advancing Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Indonesia. Emphasizing the interconnectedness of digital literacy, civic responsibility, and global awareness, the study analyzes existing teaching models, curriculum innovations, and digital platforms employed to foster responsible digital behavior among young learners. Drawing on recent literature and case studies from Indonesian schools, the article examines how school-based digital citizenship programs can empower students to engage safely and ethically in the digital sphere while simultaneously cultivating key competencies related to the SDGs, such as inclusion, sustainability, and social justice. The findings highlight ongoing challenges, ranging from infrastructure gaps to teacher readiness, and outline practical recommendations for enhancing pedagogy, policy, and collaboration to fully realize the transformative potential of digital citizenship education in Indonesia’s elementary schools.
