Experimental analysis reveals high luminescence and TSL characteristics in Cr-doped Al2O3 ceramics, indicating potential applications.
Cr-doped Al 2 O 3 transparent ceramics exhibiting high-intensity luminescence due to Cr 3+ were successfully fabricated, and their optical, scintillation, and thermally stimulated luminescence (TSL) properties were comprehensively characterized. The transmittance of Cr-doped Al 2 O 3 transparent ceramics reached 58% at 700 nm. The photoluminescence (PL) emission peak was observed at 693 nm. The PL quantum yield was 95.7% at 0.1% Cr concentration. The PL decay curve was approximated by a single exponential function, with a decay time constant of 2.5–3.6 ms. In contrast, the scintillation decay curve was approximated by three exponential functions. Optimal Cr concentration for the scintillator was determined to be 0.3%, indicating a lower detection limit of 7 mGy/h. The TSL intensity was highest at 0.1% Cr concentration, exceeding that of TLD-100. The dose response characteristic as a TSL material demonstrated a lower detection limit of 0.13 mGy.
