Case report highlights lymphatic aplasia causing foot edema in a child, demonstrating the value of lymphoscintigraphy for diagnosis.
We present the case of a 10-year-old patient with no previous or family history. She presented a recurrent left foot edema of several months of evolution. All previous tests are negative. The lymphoscintigraphy performed with 99mTc-Nanocoll showed an absence of lymphatic drainage throughout the entire left leg. The definitive diagnosis was lymphatic aplasia in the left leg. In this way, the importance of lymphoscintigraphy in the diagnosis of lymphedema in children was demonstrated, because an early diagnosis allows early treatment.
