Observational analysis reports variation in susceptibility to Cronartium ribicola in white pine species, indicating potential resistant trees.
Studies of planted trees in Oregon and British Columbia indicated the following approximate order of increasing susceptibility: Pinus armandi, P. griffithii (formerly known as P. excelsa), P. koraiensis, P. aristata, P. peuce, P. flexlis var. reflexa, P. strobus, P. flexilis, P. monticola, and P. lambertiana. These results are very similar to those obtained by other investigators in Europe and eastern North America. Evidence is presented of the occurrence of resistant trees within the exceedingly susceptible species P. lambertiana.
