This research examines microstructure changes and structural integrity of spacecraft materials during dust interaction, suggesting implications for durability.
A concept for the possibility of changing the microstructure, violating the structural integrity of the shells of spacecraft in Earth’s orbit during their interaction with dust-like fractions of meteoric and technogenic dust particles in the regime of ultra-deep penetration into the construction material is proposed. The features of the change in the microstructure of material of the protective panels and body parts of apparatus during the imitation interaction with a flow of particles, the nature of their impact and penetration have been studied.
