The article examines the approaches of various countries to the development and implementation of central bank digital currencies (CBDC). Special attention is paid to the experience of China, the European Union and the United States in creating a legal framework and technical infrastructure for digital currencies. The main stages of CBDC development, regulatory legal acts and positions of regulators of different countries are analyzed. The risks and prospects of introducing national digital currencies, as well as the attitude of civil society to this initiative, are investigated.
