Synthetic approach enhances photocatalytic efficiency of ceria-based nanocomposites for dye and antibiotic degradation.
In the present work, a synthetic approach is adopted to prepare cerium‐based ternary metallic nanocomposites (NiO/CdO/CeO 2 and SnO/MoO/CeO 2 ) via a facile coprecipitation method. Unlike previously reported binary ceria systems, the incorporation of two transition metal oxides with CeO 2 provides enhanced surface activity and improved charge separation, leading to superior photocatalytic efficiency. The morphological and structural characterization of the prepared nanocomposite was conducted using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X‐ray diffraction (XRD). The absorbance spectrum was secured by using a UV–visible (vis) spectrophotometer. The photocatalytic activity was tested against two distinct classes of pollutants: a dye (rhodamine‐B) and an antibiotic (rocephin). NiO/CdO/CeO 2 exhibited 88.5% degradation of RhB and 66.5% removal of rocephin, whereas SnO/MoO/CeO 2 achieved 77.5% RhB degradation and 54.5% rocephin removal. These findings demonstrate that the synthesized ternary nanocomposites can effectively degrade both dye and antibiotic contaminants. This combined performance represents a novel achievement for ceria‐based nanocomposites. By this work, the idea of using low‐cost and easily available metals can be utilized in ternary metallic nanomaterials synthesis and will be a pivotal choice for the remediation of the environment from various toxins shortly.
