Narrative review evaluates antimicrobial stewardship's role in addressing antimicrobial resistance, suggesting improvements for clinical and community interventions.
Objective: Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major global health challenge due to the misuse and overuse of antibiotics in clinical and community settings, leading to increased microbial resistance. Antimicrobial stewardship (AMS) is a critical strategy to address this crisis. This review aims to evaluate the significance of AMR and AMS, analyze the role of AMS in clinical and community settings, and identify challenges and future directions for AMS programs. Material and Method: A narrative review was conducted, compiling data from 2000 to 2025. Literature was sourced from PubMed, Google Scholar, BioMed Central, PakMediNet, Emerald, and ScienceDirect, following PRISMA guidelines for quality assessment. Conclusion: AMS is a vital tool to counter AMR, but its global implementation requires improved education, resource allocation, and international collaboration.
