Soft magnetic reconfigurable robot demonstrates multimodal motion in confined spaces, suggesting new solutions for targeted medical treatments.
There is a strong need for conventional magnetically controlled robots to have multi‐modal kinematic capabilities when operating in narrow, opaque confined spaces within the human body. Various magnetic robots are investigated to solve this problem, while their deformations are usually single kinematic modes or discontinuous autonomous multimodalities, hindering the robots from fulfilling specific tasks. In this study, a soft magnetic reconfigurable robot (SMART) based on the hysteresis thermal effect is proposed, aiming at realizing dynamic programming and precise manipulation of miniature magnetic robots within a limited environment, and enhancing their motion flexibility, environmental adaptability, and functional reconfigurability. This composite material has efficient magnetothermal response properties and realize magnetization reprogramming under an alternating magnetic field. Through precise structural design, microrobots made of the composite can realize the in situ programming, reprogramming, and multimodal motions and intelligent deformation. This study provides novel intelligent actuation solutions for minimally invasive medical treatment, targeted drug delivery and intelligent electronic devices.
