Excavation uncovers artifacts in the Negev highlands, indicating rich archaeological significance.
In December 2019 and 2020, two two-day excavation seasons were conducted at the Mi z pe Sede H afir site in the northwestern Negev highlands (License Nos. G-54/2018, G-32/2019, G-29/2020; map ref. 155810/514220; Fig. 1), following the discovery of ancient artifacts in a preliminary survey in the area. The excavations, on behalf of Ben-Gurion University of the Negev and funded by the Israel Science Foundation (Research No. 1321/17), was directed by Y. Yekutieli and S. Atkins, with the assistance of E. Cohen-Sasson and Y. Pagelson (area supervising), L. Schwimer (area supervising, photography and drawing) and R. Galili (area supervising and photography), as well as volunteers from the Nature and Parks Authority pre-military service program and other volunteers.
