Trial excavation of antiquities revealed key findings at Tel Qedesh, suggesting impacts on preservation efforts.
In June 2019, a trial excavation was conducted east of Tel Qedesh (Tell Abu Qudeis), which lies east of Kibbutz Giv‘at ‘Oz (Permit No. A-8540; map ref. 220858–85/718396–413), following damage caused to antiquities in the course of infrastructure works by the Mekorot company. The excavation, on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Mekorot company, was directed by R. Kapul (field photography), with the assistance of A. Ibrahim (drone photography, photogrammetry), Y. Lavan (administration), Y. Nagar (physical anthropology), N. Feig (pottery), H. Tahan-Rosen (plans and pottery drawing), K. Covello-Paran (scientific guidance) and workers from Wadi ‘Ara.
