Trial excavation examines ancient pottery in Southwest Ḥaspin, highlighting community involvement in archaeology.
In October–November 2020, a trial excavation was conducted southwest of H aspin (Permit No. A-8852; map ref. 273595–4070/749684–50090), prior to the expansion of the settlement. The excavation, undertaken on behalf of the Israel Antiquities Authority and funded by the Golan Local Council and the Ministry of Construction and Housing, was directed by B. Tzin (field photography), with the assistance of H. Bron (area supervision), M. Bekker-Shamir, Y. Lang and M.A. Tabar (assistant area supervision), Y. Yaakobi (administration), A. Kleiner (surveying and drone photography), A. Peretz (drone and field photography), T. Moab, E. Ambar-Armon, N. Barak, H. Ben-Dov and O. Kapp (scientific guidance), R. Be’eri (consultation and pottery), A. Karasik (3-D scanning of engraved stone), J. Roskin (geology and OSL dating), T. Badichi (metal detection), O. Zingboym (preliminary surveying), laborers from Kafr Yassif and Kafr Sha‘ab, dozens of community volunteers, students from the University of Haifa’s Department of Archaeology, youths from the Na t ur, Kefar Ha-Nassi, El-Rom and Qa ẕ rin pre-military programs, and students from the pre-military service year at Kefar Ha-Nassi School.
