Survey reveals awareness gaps in forensic psychological techniques among legal professionals in India, indicating a need for enhanced training.
Abstract Forensic psychology has become an essential tool in modern criminal investigations, offering scientific methods to understand criminal behaviour, assess suspects, and enhance investigative accuracy. This article examines the awareness and utilization of forensic psychological investigative techniques (FPITs) among police officers, lawyers, and judges in Kerala and Delhi. The study focuses on techniques such as the Polygraph, Brain Electrical Oscillation Signature (BEOS), Layered Voice Analysis (LVA), Suspect Detection System (SDS), and Narcoanalysis. Findings reveal varying levels of awareness, with Delhi professionals exhibiting higher knowledge than their counterparts in Kerala. Despite awareness, the actual utilization of these techniques remains low due to multiple barriers, including inadequate training and lack of institutional support. The study highlights the need for structured training programs and policy changes to improve forensic psychological practices in India's criminal justice system.
