Research investigates corrosion resistance of steels in CO2-rich environments, highlighting pitting risk.
The influence of aggressive operational factors of a gas field on resistance of steels in the presence of CO2 has been investigated. The corrosive effect of CO2 and the aqueous environment with constant contact and under conditions of moisture condensation on the steel surface of pipe steels (09G2S, Х65, etc.) was estimated. It was established that a film of moisture condensed from the vapor phase could cause the formation of dangerous local damages on steels (pitting, ulcers). The amount of moisture affects the intensity of the corrosion cases, the evaporation of which depends on the magnitude of the temperature gradient between the steel surface and the environment.
