Quasi-experimental design showed significant improvement in students' interest and collaboration skills using a deep learning approach supported by PhET simulation.
This study aims to examine the effectiveness of implementing a deep learning approach through the problem-based learning (PBL) model supported by PhET Simulation media in enhancing students’ interest in learning and collaboration skills on the topic of dynamic fluids. The research was conducted at a senior high school in Semarang, Indonesia, using a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design. The instruments used include a learning interest questionnaire, a collaboration skills questionnaire, and a collaboration observation sheet. The data were analysed using descriptive statistical techniques, normality tests, and the non-parametric Mann–Whitney U test. Additionally, data triangulation was conducted by correlating the results of the dichotomous collaboration questionnaire with the observational data. The results of the study indicate that integrating a deep learning approach through PBL and PhET Simulation has a positive impact on improving students’ interest in learning and collaborative abilities. This effectiveness is reflected in the increased scores on interest and collaboration assessments, supported by the consistency between questionnaire and observation data. The experimental class showed significantly better results compared to the control class.
