Survey reveals significant impact of usrah participation on spiritual growth in teacher trainees at IPG, indicating potential for wider adoption.
Usrah (Islamic study circle) is one of the activities aimed at developing human potential as vicegerents (khalifah) on Allah’s earth. This activity involves various levels of participation, including teacher trainees at teacher education institutes. This study aims to examine the involvement of teacher trainees in usrah activities and their impact on spiritual development at the Institute of Teacher Education (IPG) in the Central Zone of Malaysia. The study involved 507 respondents, consisting of teacher trainees from semesters one to eight at the Institute of Teacher Education Malaysia (IPGM) in the Central Zone. The data collected were analyzed using the Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) for Windows (version 26.0) to obtain mean scores. The results showed that the overall mean score for usrah activities among teacher trainees in IPGM Central Zone was 4.5. The findings indicate that involvement in usrah activities has a significant impact on the spiritual development of Muslim teacher trainees. For future research, it is recommended that the study be expanded to cover IPGs in the Northern, Southern, and Eastern Zones, as well as in Sabah and Sarawak, or extended to all 27 IPG campuses throughout Malaysia using a larger sample size. It is also recommended that future studies explore the effectiveness of technology-based usrah approaches and the challenges of their implementation in today’s digital era.
