This analysis shows the economic feasibility of fixed-bed pyrolysis for producing liquid fuel, suggesting cost benefits for larger plants.
A study has been carried out on the techno-economic analysis of primary pyrolysis process, used to convert waste natural rubber to pyrolysis liquid oil and solid char. The process considered here was based on fixed-bed pyrolysis (FBP). The assessment was carried out in the Malaysian Ringgit (RM) for three different-scale plants of feed throughput 0.3 kg/h, 100 kg/h and 1000 kg/h. The assessment showed that FBP was economically beneficial for the production of primary pyrolysis liquid oil, that could be used as raw fuel in diesel engines and in industrial gas turbines. The FBP 1000 kg/h plant unit appeared to be economically feasible, with the lowest unit production cost of primary pyrolysis liquid oil.
